So what can you do to help alleviate the pain? First and foremost, make an appointment with your dentist to be sure that the sensitivity is not due to gum disease or tooth decay. If your dentist determines it isn’t, here are a few simple changes to your daily routine that could help alleviate pain:
Switch to a soft bristle toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Also, be sure to brush gently in a back and forth motion.
Avoid acidic foods such as carbonated drinks, citrus fruits, and coffee. If eliminating soda isn’t possible, then try to limit the amount and sip through a straw when drinking.
Consider wearing a mouth guard at night to prevent yourself from grinding your teeth.
By caring for your pearly whites gently and regularly, you’ll focus on treating the cause of sensitive teeth, rather than simply reacting to the pain.
