A good meal can be one of the greatest joys in life. Unfortunately, the food we love the most isn’t always best for our teeth. Continuous consumption of sugary, processed foods can lead to cavities, gum disease and worse.
Here are a few meal ideas that not only taste great but are also good for your teeth.
Salmon with mango salsa
A great protein source, salmon is one of the best seafood dishes for your pearly whites. Packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, phosphorous, and Vitamin D, salmon provides a unique mix of teeth-strengthening nutrients that can help strengthen tooth enamel and protect against gum disease.
Cook your salmon at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes depending on the thickness of the cut. Season your salmon with lemon butter, olive oil or any preferred seasoning. Then, pair it with a fresh mango salsa for the perfect mix of sweet, savory and spicy.
Plain yogurt and fruit
Dairy products are great sources of calcium—one of the minerals responsible for strong teeth. The calcium and phosphates present in dairy help rebuild tooth enamel while bringing back minerals lost from consuming other foods.
Reach for plain yogurt and add fresh fruits for a tooth-strengthening breakfast! Some great yogurt and fruit combinations include: strawberry and kiwi, banana and blueberry, raspberry and blackberry, blueberry and honey.
Baked potato with spinach salad
Potatoes are one of the only foods with a substantial amount of naturally occurring fluoride, which helps prevent cavities.
Bake your potatoes at 475 degrees Fahrenheit for about 60 minutes. Top your potato with cheese for extra calcium and serve it with a spinach side salad for a dose of folic acid—benefiting both gum and teeth health. Adding raspberries and shaved almonds to your spinach salad will give it a burst of flavor and texture.
