We talk a lot about how diet and dental health go hand-in-hand. But diet doesn’t just mean the food you eat. It also encompasses what you drink. And while all things are okay in moderation, some beverages rise above the others when it comes to being healthy. Here’s a look at some commons ones and how they rank when it comes to your dental health.
Bottled Water
A common belief is that bottled water is better for you than tap water. And while that is true in certain parts of the country or certain circumstances, for the most part tap water is the better bet because it is enhanced with fluoride, which gives your teeth a little added boost. So if you have the option, choose the tap water and save yourself a little money.
Milk
While water is great for your body milk comes in a close second. It is full of calcium, Vitamin D and other minerals that are great for your teeth and your body.
Soda
Most people mistakenly believe choosing diet soda over regular is the better choice. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make that big of a difference when it comes to your teeth. All soda is high in sugar and highly acidic which can cause corrosion and lead to cavities. Like we said, all things in moderation, but extreme moderation is recommended when it comes to soda.
Fruit Juice
Fun fact, well actually un-fun fact, very few drinks labeled fruit juice are made with real fruit. Much like soda, most fruit juice is high in sugar and highly acidic which can lead to erosion and tooth decay. What’s better for you than fruit juice is vegetable juice – think green juice with lots of kale and spinach.
